The Dark Tower Trailer: Idris Elba’s Gunslinger Takes On Matthew McConaughey’s Man In Black

After a really long wait, the first trailer for the big screen adaptation of Stephen King‘s The Dark Tower has been released online. The film stars Idris Elba as the heroic gunslinger battling against Matthew McConaughey‘s Man In Black in a quest to protect the titular Dark Tower.

The trailer is a nice blend of apocalyptic thriller keeping a light-eerie tone throughout. Most of it revolves around Elba’s gunslinger Roland (he’s got some sick skills) and Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) as he learns about the new world and the legend of the gunslingers. The trailer is nearly three minutes long and in my opinion, gives out a little too much for a first trailer. I would’ve liked to see more of McConaughey’s Man In Black but hopefully, they’re saving more of his performance for the film.

In the end, the trailer was a nice little introduction to the new world of Stephen King and honestly, I can’t wait to see more of it! Watch the trailer here:

The adaptation is directed Nikolaj Arcel with a script co-written by Akiva Goldsman, Jeff Pinkner, and Anders Thomas Jensen.

Also starring are Katheryn Winnick, Abbey Lee, and Jackie Earle Haley.

Jake Chambers (Tom Taylor) is a young 11-year-old adventure seeker who discovers clues about another dimension called Mid-World. Upon following the mystery, he is spirited away to Mid-World where he encounters the lone frontiersman knight Roland Deschain (Idris Elba), who is on a quest to reach the ‘Dark Tower’ that resides in End-World and reach the nexus point between time and space that he hopes will save Mid-World from extinction. But with various monsters and a vicious sorcerer named Walter Padick (Matthew McConaughey) hot on their trail, the unlikely duo find that their quest may be difficult to complete.
