The Official Trailer For ‘Cars 3’ Is Out

Pixar has released the first official trailer for Cars 3. Lightning McQueen has now become old and is pushed aside by a new generation of race cars. To get back into the game, McQueen now has to take help from a young race technician who has her own plan to win.

While the earlier promos for the film had a more adult and mature tone, this one has the more familiar “family film” vibe to it. However, the central theme of a comeback story is still there, just that it has a way lighter tone now with a little more of Mater. Whether the film will finally have that more darker vibe or continue with the usual tone of the series is something I’ll love to see.

Brian Fee makes his directorial debut with the film. He has previously worked on Cars Cars 2 as a storyboard artist. The film is produced by Kevin Reher (A Bug’s Life, La Luna short). Owen Wilson is returning to voice Lightning McQueen. Armie Hammer voices Jackson Storm and comedian Cristela Alonzo voices Cruz Ramirez.

Cars 3 will open in theatres on June 16, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis:

Blindsided by a new generation of blazing-fast racers, the legendary Lightning McQueen (voice of Owen Wilson) is suddenly pushed out of the sport he loves. To get back in the game, he will need the help of an eager young race technician, Cruz Ramirez, with her own plan to win, plus inspiration from the late Fabulous Hudson Hornet and a few unexpected turns. Proving that #95 isn’t through yet will test the heart of a champion on Piston Cup Racing’s biggest stage!
