Tom Cruise Takes On ‘The Mummy’ In New Trailer

Universal Pictures has released the second trailer for their upcoming The Mummy reboot.  The film will be the first entry in Universal’s Cinematic universe made up of their classic monsters. These include The Mummy, Frankenstein’s Bride, Jekyll and Hyde, and Dracula.

Now, everyone remembers the Brendon Fraser films very fondly, but no one can deny they were indeed very goofy and campy. This new one is a pretty serious affair, though. Just like the first trailer, the new one is fairly action-heavy all thanks to Tom Cruise heading it. The Mission Impossible star is the reason the mummy rises again in the first place.

Starring in the titular role is Sofia Boutella of The Kingsman fame. She plays the role of Princess Ahmanet whose lust for power takes her down a path of murder for which she is imprisoned. But when awakened after over nearly 2000 years, she becomes an unimaginably powerful being.

Personally, I would’ve loved to see a little more horror flavour in there, but nonetheless, I am excited to see what’s in store for us. Check out the trailer bel0w:

The film is directed by Alex Kurtzman with the screenplay written by  Christopher McQuarrie and Jon Spaihts.

The film stars Sofia Boutella, Tom Cruise, Annabelle Wallis, Jake Johnson, Courtney B. Vance, and Oscar® winner Russell Crowe.

The Mummy is coming to haunt you in cinemas on June 9, 2017.

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the film :

Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy.

Thought safely entombed in a tomb deep beneath the unforgiving desert, an ancient princess (Sofia Boutella of Kingsman: The Secret Service and Star Trek Beyond) whose destiny was unjustly taken from her is awakened in our current day, bringing with her malevolence grown over millennia and terrors that defy human comprehension.

From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters.
