New ‘Baywatch’ Trailer Justifies Its R Rating

Paramount has released two new trailers for Baywatch. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson as Mitch Buchannon, a disciplined and conscientious lifeguard, devoted to protecting those on and off shore. Coupled with a brash and reckless recruit, Matt Brody (Zac Efron), Buchannon is presented with the challenge of protecting the bay against the background of a budget crisis and devious murdering criminals.

We were promised a 21 Jump Street styled revitalization of the franchise and the new trailer does exactly that. Since the film is supposed to be rated R, we do a get a few F-bombs in the trailer. It’s high on both action and comedy (another self-aware joke), and we get to see more of Priyanka Chopra‘s villain Victoria Leeds.

The studio also released an international trailer which is just the shorter version of the original trailer.

Baywatch is set to release on May 26, 2017, and is directed by Seth Gordon who has also directed comedies such as Horrible Bosses (2011) and Identity Thief (2013). The movie also stars Alexandra Daddario as Summer, Jon Bass as Ronnie, Kelly Rohrbach as CJ Parker, and Ilfenesh Hadera as Stephanie Holden.

Here’s the plot synopsis for the film:

BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
