Baywatch (2017) Teaser Trailer Spices Up Our 2017 Movie List

Things seem to be getting hotter in May as Paramount Pictures released the trailer to Baywatch which is based on the popular 90’s show of the same name. The movie stars Dwayne Johnson as Mitch Buchannon, a disciplined and conscientious lifeguard, devoted to protecting those on and off shore. Coupled with a brash and reckless recruit, Matt Brody (Zac Efron), Buchannon is presented with the challenge of protecting the bay against the background of a budget crisis and devious murdering criminals.

The trailer shows the movie may have deviated slightly from the original series in terms of some of the themes explored for comedic effect. One of them is Alexandra Daddario‘s character Summer calling Brody out on his sexist behavior. Also, Brody seems to get told off for taking offense even though he isn’t a Person of Colour and is “just tan”. The movie also features a few gags parodying the iconic Baywatch slo-mo run, according to the trailer.

Baywatch is set to release on May 26, 2017 and is directed by Seth Gordon who has also directed comedies such as Horrible Bosses (2011) and Identity Thief (2013). The movie also stars Bollywood actress Priyanka Chopra in the role of Victoria Leeds, Jon Bass as Ronnie, Kelly Rohrbach as CJ Parker, and Ilfenesh Hadera as Stephanie Holden.

Although the trailer doesn’t say as much, we can expect a surprise from the original cast members just like they did in Ghostbusters (2016).

Here’s the official plot synopsis for the film :

BAYWATCH follows devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
