Jake Gyllenhaal And Ryan Reynolds Lead Sci-Fi Thriller – ‘Life’

Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for their sci-fi thriller Life. The film follows a six member crew on the International Space Station as they come in contact with evidence of life on Mars. This single celled organism is then taken aboard the ship where it then begins to wreak havoc.

The studio went ahead and released two versions of the trailer with the international version running slightly longer. The trailer runs a bit too long for this kind of a film potentially giving away some unwanted plot-points. The story of a alien invading a ship is not exactly new per say which is slightly off-putting. Also the black guy dies first. The cliché is not me guessing it, but rather shown directly in the trailer itself.

On the brighter side, the cast is star studded with the likes of Ryan Reynolds, Jake Gyllenhaal and Rebecca Ferguson and the trailer reminds me very much of Alien. It’ll be a great watch if Life is even half as good as the Ridley Scott thriller.

The film is directed by Daniel Espinosa who has previously helmed Safe House and the Tom Hardy and Gary Oldman starrer Child 44.

Also starring in the film are Olga Dihovichnaya, Ariyon Bakare, and Hiroyuki Sanada.

Life opens in theaters on May 26, 2017.

Here’s the plot synopsis for the film :

Life tells the story of the six-member crew of the International Space Station that is on the cutting edge of one of the most important discoveries in human history: the first evidence of extraterrestrial life on Mars. As the crew begins to conduct research, their methods end up having unintended consequences and the life form proves more intelligent than anyone ever expected.
