Warner Bros. has released a new IMAX trailer for their upcoming thriller/drama Sully. The film is based on the “Miracle on the Hudson” incident of 2009 and its aftermath. Tom Hanks leads the drama starring as Captain Chelsey “Sully” Sullenberger.
The film was almost entirely shot with IMAX cameras and the new trailer puts that fact front and centre. The trailer begins with Eastwood and Sully himself talking about the backdrop of the investigation of the entire incident. We know that the majority of the film will deal with the investigation that was conducted post the “Miracle” in which the officials tried pinning the entire blame the captain for the whole incident.
Now coming back to the trailer, it is gorgeously shot. The entire trailer covers the incident, from the engine failure to the landing in the Hudson. Cinematographer Tom Stern beautifully captures sweeping shots of the city skyline. There is tension building up slowly as both pilots are frantically coordinating with the Traffic Control and realizing that the only place to land the plane is the river.
Director Clint Eastwood masterfully directs the rising tension while Hanks is, as always, giving an earnest performance.
