Yes you read that right. Superman will finally get his second solo film in a few years from now as the development process has finally begun. The whole DC Extended Universe began with Man of Steel back in 2013. While it received a mixed response from critics it did well with the general audience grossing $668 million in the summer.
However, instead of continuing the story of Kal-El with a sequel, the studio moved ahead with the expansion of the universe in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice which released earlier this year in which Superman was ahem …. killed. However we know that Last Son of Krypton will return to the big screen with next year’s Justice League.
In the DCEU slate released in October 2014 Warner Bros. announced their DC Slate consisting of nine films (two of which have released), but it didn’t include a standalone Superman film though the studio claimed that the film (and the standalone Batman film) will be released before 2020.
Overtime we heard a lot of news coming for Ben Affleck’s Batman film leaving fans to speculate that the Superman sequel has been done away with for good. However, earlier in the day ace scooper Umberto Gonzalez (or El-Mayimbe as he’s known) in an article for The Wrap reported that a source close to the project confirmed that the sequel is going into active development at the studio.
So there it is, we will surely be getting a sequel to the film that started it all but it will be a long time before it will be realized. Right now, WB’s slate is packed all the way up to 2020 with films like Justice League 1 & 2, Aquaman, The Flash, Green Lantern and Cyborg. But at as it turns out, they have two untitled projects for October 5, 2018 and November 1, 2019. The source said that the Batman film will be released first leading us to believe that the sequel won’t hit the big screen until 2019.
Stay tuned for more updates!
Till then you can enjoy the brilliant teaser for Man of Steel.
