Jude Law Plays The Pope In New Paolo Sorrentino Mini-Series

The first trailer for the upcoming mini-series The Young Pope has hit the web. Created by Paolo Sorrentino, director of the 2013 Oscar winning Italian comedy The Great Beauty, the series follows the fictional first American Pope Pius XIII played by Jude Law (Sherlock Holmes).

The series is a co-production between Sky, Canal and HBO. According to Collider, Sky will be releasing the mini-series in five territories including the UK and Ireland, Canal + in France and HBO in the North American territory.

The eight episode mini-series also stars Diane Keaton, Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, Toni Bertorelli, and James Cromwell.

From Paolo Sorrentino, director of the Academy Award®-winning ‘The Great Beauty,’ ‘The Young Pope’ tells the controversial story of the beginning of Pius XIII’s pontificate. The eight-episode series stars Jude Law as the complex and conflicted Pius XIII, the first American pope. The cast includes Diane Keaton as Sister Mary, an American nun living in Vatican City, as well as Silvio Orlando, Scott Shepherd, Cécile de France, Javier Cámara, Ludivine Sagnier, Toni Bertorelli and James Cromwell.
