The Weinstein Company has released the very first trailer for their upcoming biopic The Founder. The film chronicles the life of Ray Kroc, the man behind taking McDonald’s, a small restaurant owned by brothers Mac and Dick McDonald to a major fast food chain as we know it today.
Michael Keaton is back in the lead role starring as Krok after coming off of two Best Picture winning films Birdman (2014) and Spotlight (2015). From the trailer, we see that Keaton is definitely not playing a straight up good character like the ones from the previous two films but a slightly more savvy businessman (a Prince Castle Multi-Mixer salesman actually). It is good to see Keaton back in a meaty role setting him up as a Best Actor candidate. But it is certainly odd to see this film being released by Weinstein at the backend of summer where blockbusters reign supreme and not somewhere close to December, where majority of the films seeking Oscar considerations are released.

The Founder is directed by Saving Mr. Banks and The Blind Side helmer John Lee Hancock and also stars Nick Offerman, Linda Cardellini, Laura Dern, BJ Novak, and John Carroll Lynch.
The film opens in theaters on August 5th.
Read the official synopsis below:
Written by Robert Siegel (BIG FAN), THE FOUNDER is a drama that tells the true story of how Ray Kroc (Michael Keaton), a salesman from Illinois, met Mac and Dick McDonald, who were running a burger operation in 1950s Southern California. Kroc was impressed by the brothers’ speedy system of making the food and saw franchise potential. He maneuvered himself into a position to be able to pull the company from the brothers and create a billion-dollar empire.
